Overview:
To lead, develop and manage the delivery of the European Corporate Banking Strategy, being one of the key areas of the European Wholesale Banking business, covering existing and new-to-bank Local / Network Corporate relationships across the bank’s European footprint
To lead the Bank’s European Corporate Coverage Relationship Management Team and closely collaborate with Wholesale Banking Europe FI&NBFI Coverage and Product Sales business teams under the guidance of the European Head of Wholesale Banking (“HWBE”), the jobholder will have the vision, leadership qualities and technical skills, combined with high energy, drive and determination, to make a significant contribution to the Bank’s change agenda, growth aspirations and overall success of the Wholesale Banking Europe strategic business plan.
The job holder will have functional matrix reporting to and close collaboration with the Group Head of Corporates (“GHOC”), for full alignment of Group strategy and cross/up-sell potential of European Corporates across Bank ABC’s global network.
What You Will Be Doing:
Principal Accountabilities
In terms of the responsibilities required for the successful delivery of the function, the following apply:
Bank ABC Europe accountabilities:
- In collaboration with the HWBE and GHOC define and execute the European Corporate Coverage Strategy, annual revenue Budget and related KPIs.
- Pro-actively refine and update the European Corporate Coverage strategy as necessary to ensure the Bank retains a competitive proposition and relevance in its European core markets and operates a best market practice model to the extent practicable.
- Provide input and guidance to the HWBE, GHOC and the Bank’s Executive Leadership Team as may be necessary, in respect of the performance and development of the European Corporate Banking franchise – including key challenges and opportunities, geographic and product expansion, strategic planning and so forth.
- Drive New-to-Bank Client origination in line with the Bank’s strategy, risk acceptance criteria and return thresholds.
- Drive growth in deepening the Bank’s share of client wallet across the Client’s Value Chain through collaboration with the Bank’s Global network and product sales staff to maximize cross/ up-sell activities in line with the Bank’s strategy, risk & return thresholds
- Work in close coordination with product sales to identify product improvement innovation/new products that are in line with customer needs and the Bank’s strategy, risk & return thresholds.
- As a Senior member of the European Wholesale Banking business Team, drive the 'One Bank One Group' concept, actively facilitating cross border, cross client and cross product collaboration, to deliver a coordinated and seamless 'One-Bank' experience to the Corporate client.
- Facilitate and maintain a high performance, continuous learning and client centric culture, that embraces Bank ABC's values and behaviors, to unite and motivate the European Corporate RMs to perform at their best and strive to deliver sustainable success for Wholesale Banking Europe and Bank ABC.
- Set expectations, manage, monitor, coach and develop team members, providing support and guidance, to ensure that they maximize their performance, meet the required standards, and continuously develop their capabilities and experience.
- Provide senior representation to the external market community (conferences, round tables etc.) to continuously build Bank ABC Group brand awareness.
Operational accountabilities:
- Drive a high-performance culture and sales effectiveness across the Corporate RM Team, developing and implementing business development strategies, plans, tools and techniques, to focus origination and execution efforts targeting strategic clients and deliver sustainable growth and profitability in line with Bank’s required returns (RAROC) and other performance objectives.
- Develop and manage strong relationships with key internal / external stakeholders, including market participants, lawyers, consultants, regulatory bodies and other agencies to further support Bank ABC's strategic objectives.
Performance Management
- Drive a high-performance culture amongst the European Coverage team to deliver sustainable revenue growth whilst effectively managing operating expenses, grow the overall Client base and Client share of wallet, and increase overall portfolio and Client Portfolio Risk Adjusted Return on Capital (“RAROC”);
- Drive the recruitment of key roles within Corporate Coverage to continuously build breadth and depth of expertise within the business;
- Embrace proactive portfolio management, including the model to ‘originate to sell’ in order to optimize portfolio performance and returns.
- Ensure an effective succession plan is in place for key Corporate Coverage roles, supported by an adequate professional development plan
- Set annual European Corporate Coverage budget and KPIs for the Corporate Coverage team and drive individual performances accordingly, including periodic reviews throughout the year and a year-end review and rating.
Candidate Specification:
- Excellent understanding of the Bank’s Wholesale Banking product suite offered to Corporate clients, including but not limited to Transactional Banking, Credit & Lending and Structured Finance.
- Successfully led a sizeable banking organization across various geographies and ideally in a matrix structure.
- Excellent understanding of Continental Europe Corporate Banking market combined with a solid understanding and knowledge of the MENA markets.
- Good track record of excellent customer relationship management skills across corporates
- Excellent understanding of risk management and mitigation techniques
- Excellent understanding of the regulatory environment and obligations
- Fluent in English and preferably one other European language
- Significant post qualification experience in corporate and/or investment banking or related areas (at least 10 years)
- Significant experience in senior management and management jobs in major banking institutions (at least 6 years)
- Proven track record of originating, structuring and executing significant credit and trade transactions
- Experience of managing multiple priorities in a challenging and changing environment
- Successful proven track-record of excellent client relationship management across global corporate organizations
- Successful proven track-record of delivering stretching business goals in a challenging and changing environment
- Experience of developing and executing change
